Thousands of stillbirths occur in the United States each year. Roughly 50% of these births have no listed cause. New research suggests that the umiblical cord may be the culprit, yet no standardization of post-mortem investigation exists. This blog is dedicated to the realization of such a standard.

Would you support legislation that required post-mortem inquires on stillbirths?
Proposed Legislation
The purpose of this blog is to gain support in making mandatory a survey of all stillbirth and fetal demise cases in which the umiblical cord is available for investigation. We propose state or federal legislation that would require healthcare facilities to investigate, via a questionaire, all fetal demise cases in order to gather data. This data would then be entered into a national database to further research the increasing evidence that fetal demise is often related to complications involving the umilibical cord. The research and data available today are scant at best. We believe that hundreds, perhaps thousands of fetal deaths may be prevented if access to such a database was possible.
